Your Florida Workers' Comp Renewal Checklist
Renewal goes smoother when your records are current. Here's what to check before you talk to Bright Coast.
Last checked 2026-10-31 against FL DFS, Florida Statutes and FWCJUA sources.
What should I review before my workers' comp renewal?
Review your headcount, including corporate officers and LLC members, your payroll, the work your crews actually do, your subcontractors' certificates, and any officer exemptions. Changes in any of these can affect your coverage or whether Florida requires it.
A business that has grown may cross a threshold it didn't meet last year, especially outside construction, where the line is four or more employees.

Do I need to recheck my subcontractors at renewal?
Yes, and before every job. Florida requires contractors to make sure all subs have workers' comp before they begin work. A sub whose coverage lapsed leaves its workers counted as your employees, with you paying benefits for a work injury. Recheck certificates with FWCJUA's Verify COI tool or proof of coverage database link.
Renewal is a good moment to clean up your certificate files, since you're already gathering records.

How do I get covered fast?
If Florida requires coverage for your business, the simplest path is to have a policy in place before work starts. Bright Coast can quote it and explain the rules in plain language.

Quick answers
When should I start my Florida workers' comp renewal?
Earlier is easier, because you'll want time to gather payroll, headcount and subcontractor certificates. To get started or ask about your renewal date, call (239) 475-0361 or email support@brightcoastins.com.
Should I update my headcount at renewal?
Yes. Florida's coverage rules depend on how many employees you have, and corporate officers and LLC members count. Construction employers need coverage with one or more employees; non-construction employers with four or more. If you added officers, members or staff this year, report them so your policy reflects your business.
How do I get a new certificate after renewal?
If you're a Bright Coast client, Bright Coast says you can access certificates 24/7 through its self-service client portal. Send the updated certificate to any contractor or client who holds your old one. If you can't find it in the portal, call (239) 475-0361 or email support@brightcoastins.com.
